Digit: Leadership to Growth Journey

Developing leadership for the next stage of growth at Digit Insurance

Digit Insurance partnered with Companions for Leadership to help its leaders pause, reconnect with purpose and strengthen the collective capability needed to sustain rapid growth. The journey connected personal reflection with the practical demands of leading teams in a fast-moving organisation.

The challenge

Built around the mission to Make Insurance Simple, Digit had grown rapidly to serve more than 80 million customers across India. That pace brought increasing pressure, fatigue and fewer opportunities to reflect.

Leaders were navigating demanding targets and solving problems on multiple fronts. The organisation recognised a risk: as the business scaled, the purpose and values that had shaped its success could become less present in everyday leadership.

The next stage of growth would require stronger cross-functional collaboration, more intentional decision-making and teams able to take greater ownership. Digit wanted to give its leaders space to recharge, reconnect with themselves and their peers and consider how their leadership needed to evolve.

.

Our approach

The journey began with Digit’s executive team before extending to 80 senior leaders across four cohorts. Strong involvement from the founders and senior leadership anchored the programme in the organisation’s growth ambitions and signalled the importance of the work.

Participants attended a three-day residential Self-Managing Leadership® programme, creating space to reflect on their purpose, values and leadership choices. Through introspection and dialogue, they explored how their own assumptions and responses shaped the way they led others.

CFL’s Wisdom in Teams™ followed through three virtual sessions, delivered three months later. These sessions helped leaders apply their insights to the practical work of building teams that can perform and adapt over time.

Throughout the journey, reflective enquiry, experiential learning and peer dialogue connected individual development with Digit’s organisational context. The combination of residential and virtual sessions allowed participants to revisit their learning as they put it into practice.

Outcomes

Across the 80 senior leaders, the residential programme received an overall experience rating of 4.95 out of 5. All participants rated it highly or extremely relevant to their leadership role.

Six months after the first module, participants reported sustained changes in how they led: pausing before reacting, listening more deeply, coaching rather than providing every answer and giving teams greater ownership.

These shifts were also changing team dynamics. Leaders described colleagues bringing more ideas and recommendations, engaging more actively in decisions and handling disagreement through more constructive conversations.

Participants linked changes in their leadership to improvements in project delivery, operational efficiency, cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder relationships. These accounts provide early evidence of leadership development translating into everyday organisational capability, with teams becoming less dependent on managers and more confident in their own judgement.
